Perpetual

She dreams he is there and he is beautiful, a butterfly preserved, still twenty seven, still her love. Captured like a repeating video run, frozen in one moment, denying them the natural process of decay. Existing, intact and timeless inside that night world. A perpetual memory drenched in feeling so that every time she wakes she feels the wrench as she has to leave him all over again...

It was a very moving experience to read this Singing. I lost someone, my husband to suicide, when he was 38. What I found interesting when reading this, was the woman seeing him when he was 27. When I recall Dave, I always see him when he was 25, not how he was later before he died. This is a deep and affecting piece of writing and I'm never disappointed when I come here to read. You are a special writer my dear. :)

I find that I often remember people as they were when they most affected my life, no matter how old they are now. A friend that I loved dearly died about 2 years ago unexpectedly. We had just reconnected via Myspace, and then he died. In my head, he will ALWAYS be that 15 year old boy with long hair, wanting eyes, and a voice full of longing. always.

Left of Lost, I think that is true that we remember them as they were when they most affected us, the memory gets frozen in time. So sorry about your friend.

Thanks very much for dropping in and leaving a comment, I always enjoy reading your posts. It is good to meet you.

A beautiful piece of writing. I agree with Left of Lost. We often remember people as they were at an earlier point in life. There are several people that it is that way for me.

You've spoken to a piece of the heart many of us have felt break at the loss of a loved one, and how often that loss is felt anew. Wonderfully written!
